Dry needling is a procedure used to treat muscle pain and increase range of motion that may have become limited due to muscle tightness or scar tissue. It is said to change the way your brain and muscles communicate with each other in order to promote a more normal functioning. Dry needling deactivates trigger points in the targeted muscle cells which reduces pain and promotes collagen and protein growth for healing.

Dry needling is an evidence based practice in which acupuncture style needles are used to treat muscle pain. Dry needling can be incorporated into a treatment plan for patients seeking muscle, joint, or back pain relief. Acupuncture and dry needling are similar in the materials used, (i.e., needles) but acupuncture is a modality that treats a patient based upon the eastern medicine belief that energy runs through the body along numerous meridians and the needles are used to redirect an individual's energy to remove blockages in the flow of energy.
